Things to Watch

Books to Read

Guide to Childbirth - Ina May Gaskin
Birth Partner - Penny Simkin
Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering - Sarah Buckley
The Womantly Art of Breastfeeding - La Leche League International
Ina May’s Guide to Breastfeeding - Ina May Gaskin
Spiritual Midwifery - Ina May Gaskin

*Don’t read “What to Expect when You’re Expecting”, it’s very negative and fear-based!

Choosing a Care Provider (or finding a new one!)

This choice also depends on where you would like to give birth, and if you feel safer either at home or at the hospital. There is no "wrong" choice of where to birth, or with whom, but just like everything else, it's important to know all of your options, the stats, facts and the positives and negatives of each. In any case, be sure that you are fully supported in the decisions YOU make.

Pushing/Birth Positions

Whenever possible, keep moving during your labour/birthing process! Listen to your body! Your body and baby will tell you what position is most comfortable as you labour, and that is often exactly what your body needs to do to move baby down into your pelvis and into the correct position for birth. Even if you have chosen an epidural, depending on how your body reacts, you may still be able to be in more of an upright position to let gravity do it's work!
